Retail: Business Office/Distribution Centers

The Problem Definition

Increase communication among siloed departments in an office/distribution center environment in order to roll out Sales & Operations Initiative (S&OP) in 90 days.

Improvement Focus:

Established a cross-functional working team to build understanding and trust around each department’s tasks and responsibilities. The new team learned the pain points of each respective department and organically evolved together to offer more proactive assistance. The collaboration generated cohesive quantitative analytics, projections, and a maintained action item list.

Results:

This initiative proved to be highly successful at introducing a new way of thinking. Each department realized the importance of the other, as well as the importance of completing hand-offs and/or work within a certain timeframe.

S&OP was implemented in less than 60 days with process design, owners, and templates defined to allow the initiative to repeat monthly.
